Richard is a Chartered Insurance Broker and he and his family moved to Cranleigh in 1973. For ten years he worked in Guildford but in 1983 he started his own insurance broking business from an office in Cranleigh, just off the High Street. He sold the business in 2011 but worked for the purchasers until the end of June 2016 when he retired. His son and daughter in law also live in Cranleigh, his granddaughter attends Godalming College and his grandson is a pupil at Glebelands School. His interests include dog agility with his Labradoodle, gliding, WW2 aircraft, playing banjo and ukulele - well, trying to! He believes Cranleigh is a very special place and a great village in which to live. As a councillor he hopes to play a very active role in keeping Cranleigh special and supporting the local community. Richard believes it will be an extremely rewarding experience to be able to put something back into Cranleigh where he has enjoyed so many happy years.

Cllr Rosemary Burbridge Cllr Rosemary Burbridge
Rosemary moved to Cranleigh with her husband and four children in 1974. All of her children attended local schools and now four of her grandchildren are currently attending the same schools. Rosemary taught science at Glebelands for 26 years and she continues to teach with Surrey County Council. As a member of the Cranleigh Baptist Church, she organied, with her husband, an open youth club for 7 to 11 year old children for a number of years. Rosemary and her family chose to live in Cranleigh because it offered a good variety of shops, a village hospital, good schools and excellent recreational facilities, but retained its village character, surrounded as it is by superb countryside.

Cllr Brian Freeston Cllr Brian Freeston
Brian moved to Cranleigh three years ago from Ewhurst. Almost as soon as he moved he found himself facing an overwhelming and inappropriate planning application on his doorstep, which would have blighted the quality of life of more than a hundred residents. As a result of organising a successful campaign to stop this development Brian was elected as an independent councillor by the ward in which he lives. He currently has the honour of serving with a group of talented and dedicated people in the planning committee, as chairman. In normal life Brian is a feature film producer.

Cllr David Harris Cllr David Harris
I have lived in Cranleigh for 10 years and have always considered Cranleigh as a village rather than a town. I am married to Sue and live on the Guildford Road. The image of Cranleigh and its community supports its village status and a principle reason for applying to become a councillor is a desire to see Cranleigh flourish but still retain its quintessentially village feel. I am proud to be part of this community and want to safeguard it. I have a ‘ground level’ view of Cranleigh and would like to think that I know what is an acceptable level of new development inline with the capabilities of its infrastructure. I am a keen angler and have fished all over the world and from that perspective I have a close association with the countryside. I have managed my own fishery for a number of years and have now retired but I am still very passionate about protecting the environment in and around Cranleigh.

Cllr Matt Hayward Cllr Steve Jeacock
I've lived in and around Cranleigh for over 52 years, growing up and attending schools in Cranleigh East. At school, I was a keen football player for Glebelands, Ewhurst boys club and played for various other clubs around the village until I was 30. I then took up competing in nationally organised half marathons and training in the gym and along the Downslink, running with my dog Taz. I have owned and run businesses in Cranleigh and participated in local charitable events since the age of 10. My first being a 20 mile sponsored walk to help fund the building of Cranleigh Leisure centre. Having learned of the current planned growth for Cranleigh and surrounding villages and having been around to witness the effects of the growth of Cranleigh during the 60's and 70's, I have been working hard with local Groups over the last 3 years to persuade planning decision makers of the necessity of paying attention to flood risks and the damage causes to the local environment, business and quality of life in general when the associated infrastructure for house building is not properly included in the development plans. As a Councillor I will continue working to protect Cranleigh's local environment and village feel.

Liz has lived in Cranleigh since 1992 and runs a small business. She became a councillor in May 2015. She has always been actively involved in the community as a volunteer, initially as Chair of the Friends of St Cuthbert Mayne, where both her, now grown-up, sons went to school and then of Cranleigh Rugby Club (Mini and Junior sections). She has managed girls' rugby in Surrey and been actively involved in RFU initiatives to expand participation in sport for young people across the county. She has taken an active role in many local campaigns and is passionate about empowering young people to become actively involved in local decision making. She would like to see greater emphasis placed on environmental stewardship, to protect the environment for future generations.
